Northbridge Fireworks Disrupted by Violent Youth Incident

A youth brawl at a community fireworks event in Northbridge resulted in injuries, arrests and a police witness appeal following public disruption.



Violence Erupts at Northbridge Fireworks

A community fundraiser held at Northbridge Oval was disrupted after a brawl broke out involving multiple teenagers on the evening of 10 May 2025.

The incident occurred shortly after the fireworks display ended, drawing a large crowd. A 17-year-old boy sustained facial injuries and was transported to Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment.

Police Respond and Arrest Two Teenagers

Officers from the North Shore Police Area Command arrived at the scene around 7:30 p.m. and pursued two youths on foot. A 15-year-old and a 16-year-old were arrested.

The older teen allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted officers. He was charged with common assault, affray, behaving offensively near a public place or school, armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts of hindering or resisting police, and assaulting police during public disorder.

He was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear in the Children’s Court on 3 June 2025. The 15-year-old was released pending further investigation.

Transport Measures Enforced to Limit Escalation

To prevent further incidents, police instructed bus drivers travelling through Sailors Bay Road not to stop, as large numbers of youths had gathered near the area.

Public Appeal for Witnesses

North Shore Police are appealing for witnesses, including a specific individual who assisted security during the disturbance, to come forward. Authorities are also seeking any video or photographic evidence of the incident.

The Northbridge Rotary Community Fireworks event is held annually and features family entertainment, school band performances, rides and food stalls. The fundraiser is a longstanding event in the Northbridge calendar and is widely attended by local residents, including young children.
